Education
The Mashpee Wampanoag Educational Development Program (MWE) is a think tank comprised of Mashpee Wampanoag cultural and academic educators, scholars, and professionals; coming together to research, develop and implement educational programs and projects to promote, support, and facilitate the social, cultural and educational development and advancement of tribal members and their families. MWE uses a holistic philosophy to education, where social and cultural development is integral parts of academic proficiency and success.
The strength, integrity and longevity of the Mashpee Tribe are directly dependent upon its memberships ability to control its destiny; making it crucial for the tribal members to have the capacity to understand the complex world around them, and the ability to assume the responsibilities associated with exercising and protecting its inherent sovereign rights. It must assume the roles and responsibility associated with rebuilding its nation, for its future generations.
Program Objectives of the department
1.To provide and support programs that nurtures the positive social and academic development of Mashpee Wampanoag youth.
2. To support Mashpee Wampanoag's in their efforts to successfully complete primary and secondary educational programs.
3. To increase the number of Mashpee Wampanoag's who enroll, matriculate in, and successfully complete college and graduate school programs.
4. To promote and nurture leadership skills in youth towards the future sustenance of our community.
The MWE meets these objectives by working with schools, colleges and other educational, cultural, and social institutions towards meeting our common objectives. Exploring avenues and approaches to providing a holistic, solid, community-based education. Working with, developing, and implementing projects and programs that expand and enhance the educational experiences of the Mashpee Wampanoag community.
Indian Health Service Scholarships
American Indian and Alaska Native students are invited to apply for pre-graduate scholarships from the Indian Health Service. Applicants must be U.S. citizens who can document that they meet Tribal membership requirements and are enrolled in courses leading to a bachelor's degree in specific pre-professional areas as needed by Indian Health programs.
