MISSION
The mission of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe NRD department include but are not limited to Developing a comprehensive plan to establish an illegal dumping prevention and monitoring program in the Mashpee Wildlife Refuge and on tribal lands. Providing training and employment opportunities to tribal members in the environmental and natural resources field,continuing our role as stewards of our ancestral lands.
Some of the achievements to date include: Successful certification in the Incident Command System (I-100), Firefighter Training (S-130), Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior (S-190), and Human Factors on the Fireline (L-180). Receiving approximately $35,000 from Bureau of Indian Affairs Office of Trust Services to research the extent of Tribe's aboriginal hunting, fishing and gathering rights in Massachusetts, and participating in an illegal dump clean up on the John's Pond and Noisy Hole Properties, with volunteers from the Cape Cod Jeep Club and members of the Fish, Wildlife and Natural Resources Commission(FWNRC).
